10:30 AM – 11:30 AM – Charminar

The most charming landmark of Hyderabad, the Charminar is the finest example of Qutub Shahi architecture. The grand structure dates back to Quli Qutub Shah, who constructed this edifice in 1591 AD. This over 400 year plus charming structure is known as ‘The Arc de Triomphe of the East’. It is said that the inadequacy of water and the plague forced Quli Qutub Shah to construct Charminar at the center of Hyderabad at that time with four roads built around it in four different directions of the city.

The four minarets of the Charminar dominates the landscape of Hyderabad. The minarets, their domed finials rising from their lotus-leaves cushion, rise high from the ground. The whole structure of the Charminar contains various small and ornamental arches arranged in vertical and horizontal fashion.

12:00 PM – 01:00 PM – Golconda

Lying to the west of Hyderabad city at a distance of 11 km, the historic Golconda Fort derives its name from a Telugu word ‘Golla Konda’ which means Shepherd’s Hill. With its extensive and elevated fortifications, it was a landmark that governed the destiny of  south India back then. The fort originally belonged to the Kakatiyas of Warangal. This is testified by the over-door carvings and relief work in stucco consisting of lions, peacocks, griffins and lotus at the entrance of the fort. In 1363 AD it was passed on to the Baihmanis. After their downfall in 1518 it became the capital of the Qutub Shah.

By the 17th century, Golconda was famous for its Diamond Market. It gave the world some of the best known diamonds like the Koh-I-Noor, the Hope, the Orloff of Catherine the great, and many more.
